As of November 1, 2016, KIS Migration’s policy is to charge a professional fee based on a flat rate for most matters and an hourly rate for limited work on a file.
Flat rate billing
Generally, we will handle the matter from start to finish, with guidance throughout the entire process. Hence, you may choose to pay a flat fee (fixed fee) for the immigration and citizenship services. The benefit is that you can budget the fees at the beginning.
Hourly rate billing
Alternatively, you may choose to hire us at our standard hourly rate of C$300. KIS Migration will bill monthly for services rendered on an hourly fee basis. If you need limited support, it is more cost-effective to pay for our services on an hourly fee basis. We will render a detailed account of our time spent on various tasks.
No contingency billing
The governing body, ICCRC, expressely prohibits contingency billing. Therefore, a Canadian immigration consultant must not charge a contingency fee (defined as a payment of the professional fee depending on a successful outcome).
We are fully transparent with pricing, starting with the Initial Consultation Agreement (ICA) and the Retainer Agreement (RA).
Usually, an appointment is scheduled for 30 minutes. Before the consultation, the immigration professional will review your documents, identify issues and perform legal and factual research. During the session, the immigration consultant will interview you and advise you on Canadian immigration and / or citizenship options. After the meeting, you will receive a comprehensive report in writing via OFFICIO (immigration software).
Please note that the professional fees do not include government fees, taxes, or disbursements (out-of-pocket expenses: courier, postage, copy, print, telecommunications, etc.). In addition, you will bear the cost of document collection, notarization, medical examination, police clearance, translation, interpretation, educational credential assessment, language testing, etc. All Canadian residents will be charged 5% GST and all fees are payable in Canadian dollars (CAD).
No pro bono services
Overall, KIS Migration does not offer pro bono (free of charge) services as legal aid is available in Alberta.
We accept payment by cash, wire transfer, INTERAC eTransfer, debit card (Visa Debit and MasterCard Debit) and credit card (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) via HELCIM.
We require a retainer fee to start and continue to work with you. The deposit will be held in our trust account and will be used to satisfy our invoices for completed services. Until you provide us with a retainer fee, or replenish it when it is exhausted, we will not work on your file. A payment plan of two installments by milestones will be provided, so that the entire fee does not have to be paid upfront.
Below C$ 2,500.00
For all other matters, KIS Migration needs to receive the full amount of the professional fees as a retainer fee.
Release of funds
After a milestone has been reached, you will be billed for the completed work. Remaining trust funds are returned to you at the end of the process.
The amount we charge is for the process, not the result. Results can never be guaranteed by anyone as the granting of any type of status is at the sole discretion (right to decide) of the federal, provincial or territorial governments.
