On October 1, 2020, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) will introduce its new online portal to meet Alberta’s future labour market needs and maintain long-term economic growth.
Outlook
Albertan Online Portal
Candidates will be able to complete and submit electronic applications to the Government of Alberta via the online portal. The new system will allow for faster pre-screening and processing of provincial nomination applications.
Fees
Additionally, the AINP will implement a cost recovery system by creating two fee categories:
- A processing fee of C$500; and
- A service fee of C$100 for additional requests.
Changes Due To Pandemic
The Government of Alberta gave up 2,250 nominations from its allocation of 6,250 to only nominate 4,000 candidates in 2020. The AINP issued so far 3,660 nomination certificates. Thus, 340 provincial nominations are left to hit the target by early December. To put the competitiveness of the provincial nominee program into perspective – 1,600 applications are currently in queue for processing.
