Express Entry: The swift way – Der schnelle Weg nach Kanada

Express Entry

Express Entry System

Express Entry is an application management system which selects skilled workers under Federal Economic programs; including Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class, as well as, some Provincial Nomination Program.

In addition, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is  a unique point-based system designed to identify potential immigrants, who are likely to succeed economically in Canada. To do so effectively, the Express Entry CRS awards points for factors that Immigration Refugee Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has found to correlate positively with future economic success for new immigrants.  Under the express entry, candidates can score a total of 1,200 points depending on their age, education, work experience and language skills.

Generally speaking, the system applies a simple two (2) step process of creating an online profile and submitting an electronic Application for Permanent Residence upon receipt of an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Furthermore, IRCC targets to process complete applications received within six months or less in 80% of the cases.

Changes

On June 5, 2017, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Ahmed Hussen, stated during the announcement:

“Economic immigration programs managed by the Express Entry system attract highly talented and skilled immigrants that businesses need to help grow and strengthen our economy. … As the improvements are implemented, I’m pleased that Canada will welcome more skilled immigrants with siblings in Canada who can help them quickly integrate into their new life here, and that we’ll continue to see Francophone minority communities flourish.”

The following day IRCC implemented these four (4) improvements:

  1. Additional 15 points for at least one (1) sibling residing in Canada who is a citizen or permanent resident;
  2. Awarding up to 30 points for proven French ability;
  3. Voluntary registration with Job Bank for all candidates; and
  4. Ranking by the date and time the profile entered the pool.

Therefore, the CRS is a dynamic system, and though many candidates will not be directly affected by the latest changes, the introduction of new additional factors will shift the make-up of the pool to some degree.

A more dynamic Express Entry system – now the main driver of economic immigration to Canada!

Draws

Previously, draws showed that 450 CRS points can be considered a good score. On average, candidates with a CRS score well below 450 points received an ITA in 2017. For example, candidates with 433 or more CRS points received an ITA on August 9th during draw number 69. Hence, this cut-off threshold is the lowest since the record low of May 31, 2017 draw with 413 CRS points.

The latest Express Entry Draw (#70) took place during the period of August 23rd and ending on August 24th. During this round, 3,035 ITA have been issued to foreign nationals who had 434 points or more. Consequently, the CRS cut-off threshold increased slightly by 1 point since the previous draw.
